Genius Hour Proposal

·         What is your project?
I want to make a Rubik’s cube app on Android studio
·         What is your driving question that you are investigating or learning?
How can I use Android Studio to create a working model of a Rubik’s cube?
·         Who will work with you on this project?
I will be working on this project independently, but I will be making a project very similar to Gurmukh’s so we will be facing similar problems.
·         Who is the audience / user base / client base for this project?
My friends in the Rubik’s cube club and the people looking at my GitHub portfolio.
·         Why is this project worthwhile?
The project is worthwhile because I will gather experience concerning app-making and I will also have a finished side-project that will help my university admissions.
·         What do you expect to learn from this project?  Name a number of areas of learning?
I expect to learn more about: Java, Android Studio, app-making, time-management, goal-setting, and programming in general.
·         What PRODUCT will you have to show at the end of the year to visitors who come to learn from you?
I will hopefully have a finished Rubik’s cube app that I can solve.
·         What sort of expenses will be involved in your project and how will you cover them?
There will probably be no expenses related to my project.
·         What sort of equipment will you need and where will you get it?
I will need to download Android Studio on my computer.
·         What is your timeline for completing (or launching) your project?
I will be likely use all of the allotted time for my project because I can always add more features like a timer or automatic scrambler if I finish the main project early.
·         List many of your tasks you will need to complete that month and indicate which tasks were done or not.
March – Have the set-up completed
April – Have one working side of the Rubik’s Cube
May – Have all 6 sides working
June – Have the app display 5 slides at once and create a randomizer function
·         How will you present it during our Celebration of learning (a presentation day after school with parents and other visitors invited to visit.  There are two forms of presenting:
1.       At a desk with you or your group in front of a computer in the library (every 15 minutes parents/visitors wander around asking questions of you and you show your learning, then they go to a presentation, then back to you)
2.       At a 15 minute presentation in the library in an auditorium style presentation with you talking and showing your presentation on a TV screen, and parents/visitors sitting in chairs in front of you.  At the end they will ask questions and you will answer them.
